Jacob’s Ladder (1990) : Deleted Scenes and Commentary

by "Penguin" Pete Trbovich on July 15th, 2018 | | ,

A few deleted scenes from the 1990 cult classic Jacob’s Ladder, with commentary by director Adrian Lyne. He talks about how when the visions start, the viewer only has a vague idea what the being’s nature is and has to fill in the gaps with imagination. He also describes how he uses details like the broken mirror to foreshadow this experiment in the apartment will fail, and uses the clever device of a dripping faucet tap to punctuate the beats in the sequence.

It’s always interesting when an artistic director reveals the thought process behind a composition. The best horror works in the back of the brain on the subconscious level, where our instincts and fight-or-flight reflexes live. For those who haven’t seen this movie, this even serves as an effective taste of this reality-warping story.

Writer, artist, prophet, cult leader. Take good care of my memes. I’ve raised them since they were daydreams.
