A spiritual successor to George A. Romero’s Martin, The Transfiguration finds a young teen, Milo, obsessed with vampire lore as he believes himself more and more to be one of the blood sucking creatures when he meets and bonds with fellow social outcast Sophie. After the death of his mother, his brother has become distant and depressed and in their poor neighborhood without an older figure to protect him, Milo must figure out how to fend for himself, finding solace in his vampirism. Less of a standard genre film The Transfiguration finds its objective-style, slow burn scares rooted in a socio-economic allegory.
