When Jack Torrence takes a care taking job in the slow burn, cult classic The Shining (dir. Stanley Kubrick) he and his family aren’t expecting anything odd to happen. They are staying in the giant, isolated Overlook Hotel as it closes down for the winter season and even Jack’s responsibilities are lax, meaning he has all the time in the world to work on his writing. His son, subtly psychic sees visions of ghosts throughout the building and grounds and the spirits within it begin to drive Jack mad, causing him to snap and go after his family with an ax.
