The First Purge is the 4th film in The Purge Series from Blumhouse Productions and is the first to be made by a new director, Gerard McMurray. The series has always been heavy handed with its politics and opinions but mixed those serious topics with an exploitation level of stylized violence and outlandish plotting. With a predominantly black cast the film pokes at racial tensions in America and references other political lightning rods of the past couple years. Following a drug king on Staten Island trying to protect his ex-girlfriend and her family they learn that The Founding Fathers government have a more insidious plan behind their sociological crime experiment.
