Scott Derrickson directs Sinister starring Ethan Hawke as a true-crime novelist, Ellison Oswalt. Ellison has moved his unwitting family into the home of his next book’s subject as a gruesome family massacre occurred there. Looking more into it as his morbid personality is wont to do, he discovers grisly details in a box of tapes and old footage in the attic. When he realizes that the murder has a connection to an ancient pagan deity named Bughuul and the surviving child of the family was the murderer, he promptly moves them out of the house. It’s only then that he realizes he’s placed his family in even more danger.
