Researching urban legends goes awry in Candyman as a skeptical Chicago graduate student, Helen, summons The Candyman, a supposedly murderous spirit with a hook for a hand and a penchant for violence. With an atmosphere of urban decay and a beautiful featured score, Tony Todd delivers a heart-pounding performance as the titular villain. Framed for some of The Candyman’s murders and believed to be psychotic, Helen tries to summon him again and clear her name only to discover he believes she is the reincarnation of his past love and eventually become a murderous urban legend in her own right.

It sounded like just another urban legend: A videotape filled with nightmarish images, leading to a phone call foretelling the viewer’s death in exactly seven days.
