In 28 Days Later Jim awakens from a coma in an abandoned hospital in London. Venturing outside he sees that the streets are empty and encounters a crazed priest in a church. When he encounters other living humans, it is explained that a rage virus has infected the world and caused societal collapse. The party of survivors makes their way to a military blockade promising protection but when they arrive the men inside may be just as dangerous as the monsters outside when they threaten sexual violence. They escape, and the film ends on a positive note as a trio including Jim survive. In the ending scene a lone Finnish fighter jet flies over the three survivors, the infected are shown dying of starvation, and the pilot calls in a rescue helicopter.
