A Child’s Play Reboot Plus a Television Series!

Whether you personally love ‘em or hate ‘em, it’s definitely clear that Hollywood is crazy about horror reboots, revamps, and re-imaginings these days. This time it’s the ever-popular Child’s Play series up to bat with not one, but two new additions to the franchise coming up soon – an upcoming Child’s Play television series, as well as a full reboot of the original film.

Word that the television series was in development hit the grapevine last month. Although not a lot of details are known yet, we do know that the series will be helmed by original franchise co-creator, Don Mancini. A mere two weeks later, The Hollywood Reporter released news that a Child’s Play reboot had recently been fast-tracked by MGM.

Don Mancini has since confirmed that he isn’t personally involved in the upcoming MGM film production, so these are two independent productions. The MGM films will put Norwegian filmmaker Lars Klevberg (Polaroid) in the directors chair. Seth Grahame-Smith and David Katzenberg of the recent It 2017 reboot will be producing Child’s Play as well. The film is set to begin production in earnest this coming September.

Since the series and reboot won’t be related in any way, fans can only guess at what will happen once they’re both released. Should they both be successful, would this lead to two independently produced Child’s Play arcs running simultaneously? If so, what would that mean for Chucky and the franchise going forward? You’ll know more as soon as we do, so watch this space and stay tuned!
