Clever New Advertising Campaign Has Creature Feature Fans Excited All Over Again About the Premiere of The Meg

When it comes to summer films with lots of potential, The Meg seems to have every base covered. Menacing, mysterious creature from the deep a la Jaws? Check. Summer-appropriate beach setting? Check. Fantastic special effects, a promising cast, and a world class director? Check, check, check! If there’s one thing that’s had horror fans even more excited to catch The Meg when it hits theaters next week than its obvious blockbuster cred though, it’s definitely the clever advertising.

Since news first dropped that The Meg was a go, the promotional material responsible for generating a buzz has been top notch. The latest four posters feature different types of beach-goers that might be likely to cross paths with a hungry prehistoric shark alongside their nutritional information, giving new meaning to the term “beach body diet”. While the posters definitely get the message across that people are officially on the menu in this film, it does so in a delightfully humorous way that isn’t overly morbid. For instance, a closer look at the “nutrition facts” for each type of person shows some are higher in calories, cholesterol, sodium, protein, and so forth than others. One poster even features a couple with a serving size of “about 2”.

Thanks in part to smart, shareable advertising like this, The Meg is already being celebrated as one of the best movies of the summer by several sources and getting a lot of positive feedback in early reviews. The future Warner Bros. Pictures hit is directed by Jon Turteltaub (Instinct, Phenomenon, National Treasure) and stars Jason Statham (The Fate of the Furious, Snatch). Rainn Wilson, Winston Chao, Ruby Rose, and Li Bingbing also make appearances. Catch The Meg when it splashes into a theater near you on August 10, 2018.
